3 Year Anniversary Engagement Reflection
--
August 29, 2021 had passed on a Sunday recently meaning that it has been 3 whole years since I got engaged to my fiancé. It was quite an adventurous engagement! We rented a cabin and drove through several small towns in order to get to Munising. We hiked through the woods and walked along the coast of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We spent the whole day discovering new sights, admiring the rock formations and enjoying Lake Superior. We found Spray Falls. There weren’t many hikers out the day that we went. It was a bit chilly, but we managed. In the parking lot, before we headed out for a hike, I noticed lots of bear warning signs and got freaked out so I urged my fiancé to leave everything in the car. Luckily, we didn’t get up close to any bears!
I wanted to find the perfect place to photographically capture our engagement, but I didn’t know if I was ever going to find the right scenery or waterfall. I really wanted to find and capture a waterfall! Being engaged is a big deal and I didn’t know quite what the future held for me.
After my fiancé and I captured the photos and videos of our engagement near the very scenic area of Spray Falls looking out onto Lake Superior, it was time to get back to the car. There was only a certain amount of daylight! Hiking and navigating very large territories of wilderness was not my strong suit even though I was in Girl Scouts for over a decade. As we headed back, my fiancé was wanting to go in one direction and I was urging him to go in another. It was getting dark and I felt a strong panic and anxiety set in. What if we could not find the parking lot? I was using the light on my phone to light the way, but there wasn’t much charge left on my phone.
There were so many emotions! There was anticipation and excitement for the day and us getting to spend it with each other. There was the surprise and awe of the amazing journey that we got to experience through exploring a new area. There was intense joy of feeling like we were actually together on our own journey when my fiancé put the engagement ring on my finger. There was the fear at the end of the day of not knowing if we would make it back to the car. There was extreme relief when we finally made it back to our car.
