Christmas Day: Being Single vs. Being Engaged For The Holidays
I had been single for 27 years going through several Christmases “by myself.” Now, moving forward, this will be the 5th year in a row that I will not be single for the holidays. I’ve been with my fiancé for a good solid four years. I got engaged in August 2018 and this will be my third year spending the holidays engaged. I will always enjoy the holidays whether I’m single or taken! I have a lot of nostalgia regarding the holidays.
I love feeling joyful with my fiancé around this time of year, but it is also a reminder of our family members that have passed away that are no longer with us. We still feel a lingering sadness about the loss of our moms.
We still feel the voids from those family members that have passed away. The changing dynamics of our families in relation to these losses hasn’t been easy to come to terms with. Even though we have each other, we still cannot fill those losses.
The love and support that we give to each other during the holidays has made it easier to get through them. We have cultivated our relationship to the point where we each take responsibility for the roles that we play in our relationship and it has made it easier to give each other support where needed. The reliability and loyalty that we’ve demonstrated to each other has made our relationship worth…
