Dating Issue: What To Do If You Get Stood Up

3 min readOct 31, 2020

You get ready for something that you expect is going to be a great time. You’ve got your outfit together. You’ve prepared for your date for at least a week. You don’t exactly know what to anticipate, but you’re excited for a new possibility in love. You get to the fancy restaurant and ask if the guy is there yet. The host looks confused, but sets you up at a nice table. Minutes go by, then hours. You can’t get a hold of the guy, then finally decide to go home.

People want new possibilities and opportunities, but things don’t always end up how we want them to even if we put ourselves out there in a positive way. If we’ve put effort into our presentation and getting to the agreed place early, we’ve shown up and given ourselves a fair shot at what may happen next. Being forgotten or “left in the dust” can make us feel the intense feeling of loneliness to a new degree. It can also magnify the feeling of abandonment. At this point, we’re not just single, but we’re not desired and we’ve got to pull ourselves out of the disappointment.

Not being desired or feeling like a priority in someone’s life can make us question our own value. We may think that there is something wrong with us and devalue ourselves if we can’t rationalize why something went wrong.
