How To Inspire Your Significant Other

2 min readAug 1, 2020

I have always kept myself busy. I had homework growing up. I read a lot. I was in Girl Scouts. I wrote down the tasks that I needed to get done and crossed them off. I learned that once you direct your focus and find out the actions needed to help you get closer to your goal, you will make it.

I wanted to have excitement and joy in my life continuously, but I only had so much energy and time in the day. I wanted to have more energy and a better mood. I was feeling aggressive and tired with no outlet for my energy so I was experiencing anxiety.

Last year, I felt so much instability in my emotions. One day I would feel okay. Another day I would feel amazing. Yet another day I would be so lethargic. I felt blocked in my ability to get things done as well as have motivation.

I had to make a change with myself. I felt good back when I was vegan five days out of a seven day week. I decided to commit myself to being vegan completely from last August on forward. I didn’t want to experience these crazy emotions anymore.

I chose my food carefully. I looked up every ingredient in what I was eating. I narrowed down my choices of restaurants. I selected more whole foods. I made vegan recipes at home. I drank more water.

It was hard to make these seemingly drastic changes. Some people thought I was on a diet. I considered it a vegan lifestyle. I would turn down food that was offered to me trying to explain that I don’t eat animal products. My body was still addicted to animal fats, cheese and meat so I had to use willpower to change my routine and what I was eating.

It has been a year that I have stuck to this vegan lifestyle. My cravings for “normal food” has passed. I have encouraged my fiancé to eat better as well. Just yesterday my fiancé cooked us vegan breakfast. We also love making vegan tacos together.

Mindfulness is a huge part of inspiration. When we take the lead in becoming aware of ourselves and what we are doing, we can make the changes necessary to improve our lives. I had to recognize how my body was being negatively affected to then make a change. I grew in confidence of my changed lifestyle because of the comparison of how I felt before and how I feel now. I know that I have lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, less chance of getting cardiovascular and heart disease and less chance of getting colon and prostate cancer. I feel more in control of my life. I have also inspired my fiancé to make changes as well.
