Is Astrology Real?

4 min readJul 22, 2020

There are many articles that you can find nowadays that talk about astrology. Opinions on it can vary. According to “15 Surprising Facts You Should Know About Astrology” from TheTalko, astrology got its start around 3000 BC Mesopotamia. It dates back to China, India and Greece, which were the first countries to use it. It goes on to say that the first scientists in medieval Europe were astrologers or astronomers and it was a highly valued profession at the time.

There are 30 percent of Americans that believe in astrology according to one article and a couple of others that I had seen. I have come to the conclusion in reading and researching that men and women want predictability. They want to know what’s going to happen next. If we don’t have a sense of certainty in our lives, we feel anxious, fearful and depressed.

In one article from beliefnet, the writer says that astrology can be a fun idea, but there is no scientific data that proves any of its claims are valid. She gloomily ends the article saying that science does not back up what the stars are telling us.

My first question is… what is science? Astrology has a long history that can’t be ignored. At one point, astrology was considered scientific. If we define the word, “science,” it says “the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.”

I do hold an understanding of astrology as a reference tool. I do not use it to determine everything in my life or others’ lives, but I have found a lot of things to be true in regards to birth charts and traits of zodiac signs. I have many books from different writers and authors talking about astrology. Each writer has his or her own flavor when writing due to their own energies. I look to understanding someone’s energy as a baseline for future events in his or her own life.

I have observed that traumas or significant negative events in a person’s life can limit one’s confidence or bring in more negativity than what was asked for. It can include a change in someone’s reactions, emotions and outlook that may not reflect all of the positive aspects that are detailed for a zodiac sign. I have also observed that someone can absorb energy from another person if he or she lives with someone else and act differently than what was detailed in his or her original zodiac description. In dealing with the human experience, there are variables that can change.

I use astrology as a reference tool, not as a guide for how to live my life. It has been helpful to look at and determine the energy of people and situations and then come to a conclusion on what is going on.

I have learned not to take the opinions of people on subjects or topics that they are not proficient in seriously. I have many astrology books that are simply amazing and have helped me understand life as segments within a whole. We all come in with different energies and carry our own energies throughout our life that may change due to life events or people surrounding us. I find astrology to have been helpful in the matters of love and relationships. It has helped me understand my own ties to people as well as explain the ties that other people have had. In the end, we are all here to help each other and if astrology can help us, why not let it?
