Mystery & Romance: How Mystery Fuels Romance

Men and women are different. Men and women don’t think alike. Men and women don’t react alike. We’re just different. Different is good and differences create the mystery of romance.

There’s lots of ways to meet people online, but I’ve always had a few doubts about some of the online dating and matchmaking sites. What standards are used to decide “compatibility”? Are the man and woman supposed to be mirror images of one another? Are they supposed to hold the same views on every subject? Where’s the fun? Where’s the excitement? Where’s the MYSTERY going to come from? If there’s no mystery, you’ll be bored and more likely to be disengaged from the relationship as a whole leaving you wanting more.

If no mystery can be created in the relationship and everything is predictable, it will be like watching the same movie over and over again. You’ll eventually become bored with it. You’ll know what’s going to happen so you’ll most likely stop watching it. As for a relationship, you’ll stop being involved in it and look for excitement and newness elsewhere.

Have you ever heard the old adage, “opposites attract”? It’s true. It’s the differences that create the mystery and put the excitement into a romance, not the likenesses, not the sameness. Likeness and sameness are like vanilla
pudding... they’re okay, but vanilla pudding…
