New Year’s Day Reflections: What I Desire For My Clients
2020 brought up many challenges for those pursuing love. Social distancing was enforced. The public environment got strange and awkward. Fears and anxieties came up about what life would be like moving forward, what would happen with the Presidential Election and what would happen if you got COVID. Relationships that were trying to survive the pandemic experienced more strain, hardship and stress. Some experienced severe financial difficulties. Some others had to take on new challenges like homeschooling their children. All in all, 2020 tested everyone and their strength as well as their character.
People want connection, but with these odd rules in place like wearing masks and social distancing, people are feeling disconnection from others. We had gotten used to not seeing people’s faces or facial expressions. We also had to be consciously aware of the distance that we were using around people. All of this amounts to feeling loneliness and isolation, perhaps more than was originally felt before the pandemic.
The Washington Post had talked about studies involved with human connection. Something like getting an offer of help from a stranger or even looking at a picture of someone you love can ease pain and reduce physical symptoms of stress. People who feel supported by their social networks are more likely to live longer…
