Relationships 101: Find Someone Who Cares

I used to think that everyone cared and that all people had good intentions. I had an innocent, naive take on life years ago. I thought that if you proved that you were a good person and did good for others that you would automatically receive good in return. I thought that this would apply to relationships as well. I had to navigate through relationships where I had thought that the other guy cared about me and my well being, but in the end, I found out that he did not.

People desire to have a partner who is caring and empathic, but if there are other underlying motives that taint the union, your partner may be giving you what you want to seek some sort of benefit for himself or herself. When we find out later that there were hidden motives behind a relationship all along, we feel like we were part of a game or that we were used. We question how we couldn’t see what was happening all along. We wonder if something’s wrong with us and think that maybe we’re just not good enough for what we want.

Being stuck in a mindset of feeling undeserving of our desires in love results in settling or letting failure prevail in our lives so we stop making attempts to put ourselves out there.

We may take extreme care in dealing with another. How is that person attempting to show that he or she cares for us? A partner can listen, but does…
