What To Do If Your Relationship Status Is Not Being Respected

3 min readOct 15, 2020

I’ve recently posted my relationship status on my Facebook profile. I was getting lots of men hitting on me. Even with my relationship status up, some men are not looking at it and still commenting on my looks or commenting on how I should be with them. You don’t owe anybody an explanation. If you say that you are engaged or that you are not interested in whatever relationship plan is in someone’s head, that should be the end of the story.

People can have a desire to have someone or something unattainable, but ignore simple facts of reality that exist. If someone does not desire a relationship and the other person pushes harder to impress somebody, that still does not change the fact that the other person does not desire a relationship. Pushing your desires and expectations onto other people without reciprocation of feelings will leave you feeling embarrassed, ashamed and depressed.

If you are pursuing someone that is already “taken,” you may feel like you like the challenge of “making somebody yours” or feeling like eventually the person that you are pursuing will “see the light” and come to you because you are better. Sometimes desire can make us do crazy things in retrospect. Pursuing someone that is taken will only lead to heartbreak. Not accepting that someone is taken is a form of denial.
